Planning for retirement: not just about money

Are you dreaming of Florida beaches, secluded fishing lakes or endless rounds of golf for your retirement?

Warm weather and quiet time do sound great, but do 15-20 years of endless golf sound as great?  We find that some people may be diligently planning and saving for retirement but have never given a thought as to what they will DO in their retirement.  As part of our comprehensive financial planning, we encourage our clients to not only think about the money aspect of retirement but to look at the whole picture.

An article in Financial Advisor Magazine by Mitch Anthony, “My Heroes” listed some great resources to help retirees not only “live long, but live well.”  He even shares some amazing stories of 80 year olds still water skiing, building schools or chairing professional organizations.  Our healthiest and happiest clients are those that keep their mind and body active.  Volunteering or having a part time job (paid or unpaid) are great ways to keep yourself challenged and excited about what life has to offer.  My grandparents-in-laws are 87 years and despite health issues, they still manage to have a busier social calendar than I do!
